IRBsearch has an extensive knowledge of the private investigative and data acquisition industries, with a combined 40 plus years of investigative experience between two of the founding partners: Darrell Goodwin and Edward Eckland. Darrell served on the board of directors for the Florida Association of Licensed Investigators (FALI) and has testified on behalf of private investigators and public record retrievers on public record laws and bills in front of the Florida Senate and House committees in the past.
IRBsearch—as the company is known today—traces its origin to the founding of the International Research Bureau, Inc. (IRB) in 1986. The company became one of the largest public record retrieval companies in the State of Florida by 1994 with over 14,000 customers from law firms, insurance companies, private investigation services, law enforcement agencies, and general businesses. IRB was also a licensed private investigation agency in the State of Florida.
In November of 1994, IRB launched one of the first online public record databases in the country. The name of the product was IRB On-Line and it allowed users to search Florida public records such as drivers licenses, vehicles, real property, and workers compensation information via a dial-up. IRB was sold to Database Technologies, Inc., (DBT), also known as Autotrak, in July 1995 and the databases merged. Darrell Goodwin served for several months on the DBT board of directors. DBT was later bought by ChoicePoint (CPS; NYSE) in 1998. In December of 1995, Darrell Goodwin and the original IRB partners bought back the rights to the name International Research Bureau, Inc., and began providing pre-employment screening services.
By 2001 Darrell and Tom Gardner became involved in the development of a new, online investigative people locate product and in May of 2001, IRBsearch was launched.
